The Cockburn Basketball Association would like to congratulate Stu Mather on his induction as a Cougar Family Life Member.

Stu started playing as a junior in the 1980’s, playing in both the domestic and District competition.

He also coached the WABL and Div 1 men through the 80’s, 90’s and early 2000’s.

He was a very hardworking WABL Director in 1999 and 2000 during his time on the Board of Directors.  He organised the wind-ups to be moved to the South Fremantle Football Club.

This was a venue that was significantly larger than years gone, with the 250 plus parents and players enjoying a cooked breakfast whilst trophy presentations and speeches were made. Often finishing with a quick kick of the footy on the oval.

These breakfasts were well supported and enjoyed by all members.

Stu’s biggest contribution to our association came in the form of our website.  He built and maintained our website from 1995 – 2016.  Starting as a small website to input Cougar SBL rosters and stats. After a few years and when technology became more popular, he developed a website for the whole of CBA and manually transferred data to the new club domain.

In 1999 together with Kev Stenhouse he revamped the website and introduced a Joomla CMS.  In 2003 the website was moved to a new server under a new domain.  He rebuilt the site and reformatted the stats and archived pages, together with 1000’s of club photos and SBL actioned shots.

He maintained and updated club news on this website for CBA for the next 13 years from 2003 – 2016.

The remarkable thing about Stu is that all the above was done because of his love for this club.

Stu still maintains a record of stats for his beloved Cougars, while continuing to play at Cockburn in the domestic competition.

He is a face that you will see at club events and fundraisers.

He would have to be our “Number 1” supporter for SBL, at not only home matches, but away games as well.

He is warm and welcoming to everyone, and could never be more honest.

He always enjoys a chat and some friendly banter in the Cougar Den on game nights.

His significant contribution to the history and growth Cockburn, together with his continuous loyalty and support for over 3 decades sees this gentleman a very worthy recipient of Life Membership.

CONGRATULATIONS, STU.

Note: Thank you to Tammy Van Lit for Stuart’s nomination.
