The Cockburn Basketball Association (CBA) has joined forces with local not-for-profit organisations Power to Empower and Athletic Advantage to provide it’s State Basketball League (SBL) programs with an edge into 2020.
Power to Empower is a Perth movement run by Ben O’Meara with the aim of raising money to help those in need, while also providing a facility for people to improve their strength and fitness.
All senior Cougar athletes will have access to the gym, with the organisation working alongside Athletic Advantage as an extension of the partnership, made up of Perth Lynx Strength and Conditioning coach Darrell Morgan and Nathan Beisley.
Athletes will be provided with their own programs to use throughout the off-season, pre-season and in-season.
Each program will also have access to pre-season testing, regular on-court strength and conditioning sessions and a comprehensive team to support existing physiotherapy partners Sportreat and Totalife Care.
CBA General Manager and WSBL Head Coach Tyrone Thwaites said this is an important move for both Cougar programs, but a wholistic win for the Cougar Family.
“While this is a much-needed step in the right direction for our State Basketball league men and women, the unique structure of this partnership will see junior WA Basketball League athletes benefit as well,” he said.
“Athletic Advantage will provide baseline testing for all junior representative athletes prior to the 2020 season, while also providing education on managing load and age-specific strength activities for our juniors.
“Ben and Power to Empower are aligned well to the ethos of the Cougar Family, and we know our athletes are excited to get into gear for season 2020.”
Power to Empower owner Ben O’Meara couldn’t be more ready to get started with the Cougar family as their exclusive basketball partner.
“We are excited to help the Cougars take their game to the next level as we welcome them into our community,” he said.
“This is the beginning of a long relationship with success to be had by all.
“Big things to come this season from the Cougars.”
With pre-season to commence as soon as next month, SBL is already gearing up at the Cougar den.
