In devastating news for the wish-lists of rival State Basketball League (SBL) teams this off-season, Gavin ‘Bob’ Field has signed on for two seasons with the Cougar Family
In the past two years, Field has averaged more than 24 points per game, eight rebounds, over 40 percent from the three-point line and picked up his second runner-up SBL Most Valuable Player award.
Arguably the greatest Cougar of all time, Cockburn Basketball Association General Manager Tyrone Thwaites said Field’s signing was symbolic of what the Cougar Family stood for.
“His loyalty is undeniable,” Thwaites said.
“To sit down with Bob and hand him a contract for one-year, and another for two, only for him to quickly wave away the one-year contract, highlights the depth of blue and gold in his blood.
“We couldn’t be prouder of Gav’s service to our proud family, the example he sets, and the presence he brings.
“When you mix together performance, character, loyalty and achievement, no Australian in this league comes close.”
Field is now signed until the end of season 2021, and the excitement at the Den just went up a level.
With the biggest piece of the men’s SBL playing roster in place, attention now turns to the announcement of the Cougar Family’s head coach, with a release set for next week.
