The Cockburn Basketball Association is proud to announce the re-signing of the Cougar Family’s State Basketball League coaches Adam Nener and Megan Thompson for the 2019 season.

This is a strong mark of continuity for the club, a key element for all successful State Basketball League Associations.

After an injury riddled campaign for both teams in 2018, Nener is back for a third year in charge of the men, while Thompson returns for a second season at the helm.

Cockburn Basketball Association General Manager Tyrone Thwaites acknowledged results aren’t always the best indicator of success, with both programs tracking strongly in the right direction.

“Finals are obviously still the aim,” Thwaites said.

“But continuity is so important and the club hasn’t retained coaches across both programs for a number of years.

“If you look around the league, consistency of coaches is a key to long-term success and sustainability.”

Off the back of a career year for Cougar Captain and runner-up league MVP Gavin Field, the men’s program finished ninth with a record of 11-15.

Coach Nener said he is pleased to welcome Assistant Coach David Moreschi back for 2019, and was proud of the men’s performance in the past season.

“I was pleased with the way our guys fought out the season and finished the year,” Nener said.

“We have identified areas we clearly need to improve on, and the group is already on board to make those changes in 2019.

“Dave (Moreschi) and I are already well into our planning, and looking forward to everything coming together in January.”

After a strong opening to 2018, the women’s program fell away with a number of injuries to key players to finish 10th with a record of 6-16.

Coach Thompson said she was feeling optimistic about season 2019.

“We are looking to charge into next season fitter and stronger than ever,” Thompson said.

“The Cougar Family is something I am proud to be a part of as we continue to grow, learn and reach our potential.”

Both programs are now well into off-season planning ahead of a bright 2019, with key personnel announcements not too far away for the Cougar Family.
